1. Our Commitment to Privacy & Safeguarding

At Safiri Youth Impact, we prioritize trauma-informed safety, survivor-centricity, and strict data privacy. We understand that the individuals we serve — particularly youth and survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) — require the highest level of confidentiality. This Privacy Policy aligns with the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019) and our internal Zero-Tolerance Safeguarding protocols.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect information that is necessary to fulfill our mission, process your requests, and provide support. This may include:

  • Personal Identification Information: Name, email address, phone number, and location when you fill out membership applications, program waitlists (e.g., Safiri Livelihoods Incubator), or contact forms.
  • Financial Information: When you donate, your payment details are securely processed by authorized third-party gateways. SYI does not store your credit card or mobile money PINs on our servers.
  • Sensitive / Crisis Information: If you use our confidential help forms or SSSTOP crisis platforms, you may voluntarily provide sensitive information regarding GBV incidents. This data is handled under extreme restriction.
  • Usage Data: Non-identifiable data such as IP addresses, browser types, and pages visited, collected via cookies to improve site performance.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data exclusively to:

  • Process program applications (e.g., The Safiri Mothers Learning Hub, Youth Membership).
  • Facilitate secure, confidential, and rapid support for survivors of SGBV or TFGBV.
  • Process and receipt financial donations.
  • Send organizational updates, volunteer opportunities, and newsletters (only if you have opted in).
  • Improve our website's User Experience (UX) and organizational impact tracking.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

Safiri Youth Impact does not and will never sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Information is only shared under the following strict conditions:

  • With Trusted Service Providers: We may share necessary data with vetted third-party vendors (e.g., secure email providers, payment processors) who are legally bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
  • For Legal or Safety Reasons: We may disclose information if required by Kenyan law, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is absolutely necessary to protect a person's life, prevent immediate physical harm, or report child abuse as mandated by the law.
  • Anonymized Reporting: We may share aggregated, completely anonymized statistics (e.g., "500+ youth trained") with donors or partners for impact measurement.

5. Data Security

We implement robust technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. Access to sensitive survivor data is heavily restricted on a "need-to-know" basis and is managed exclusively by trained, trauma-certified staff members within the Governance & Ethics Committee.

6. Your Data Protection Rights

Under Kenyan law, you possess the right to:

  • Access: Request copies of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): Request the deletion of your personal data, provided it does not conflict with legal retention requirements.
  • Withdraw Consent: Unsubscribe from communications or withdraw consent for data processing at any time.

7. Cookies Policy

Our website uses standard cookies to enhance your browsing experience. You can choose to disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may limit your ability to use certain features of the site (such as user portals or donation carts).

8. Children's Privacy

While our programs benefit youth and children, our website is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 18 without explicit, verified consent from a parent or legal guardian. If we discover we have inadvertently collected such data without consent, we will delete it immediately.
